Our raw maca is processed at low temperatures and is never heated above 105°F / 40°C.
Unlike gelatinized maca, raw maca does not undergo an additional heat-and-pressure cooking step. It retains its naturally occurring starch and represents the less-processed preparation preferred by many maca users.
Both products are made from raw red maca and are processed at low temperatures. The main difference is how the roots are handled immediately after harvest.
Premium Raw Red Maca is processed shortly after harvest using controlled dehydration, while our standard Raw Red Maca is prepared using more traditional drying methods.
The choice between them generally comes down to which processing style you prefer.

I started myself on the raw red Maca capsules but these didn’t settle very well with my stomach. I took 2 first day then 3, and 4 third day. I had a bad stomach upset then stopped. Taking the red maca. I have seen a remarkable difference. I’m feeling more energetic; having less cravings esp for sweets; feeling more balanced, less ‘hormonal’, etc. I take 8 of the capsules per day and it kicks in pretty fast- within @ half hour of taking them I can feel the marked difference to energy levels. (I first took maca years ago and then was taking too many per day- I think 12 or more capsules, and it made me over-energetic, couldn’t sit still, was over-wired and even perspiring, so I stopped. Decided to try again and this time is great so learned it is important to take the correct dose for you.) I can honestly say that I really rely on the red maca. My husband takes the black and he feels the same about it for him. The only issue is that none of the research is prepared to confirm whether you can still take maca while pregnant. We are TTC and – as the research is about 50/50- if I fall pregnant I think I will continue to take it -at least first trimester (but will discuss with midwife before final decision).
