Black Maca roots from Peru prepared for our whole-root style maca chips.
Our Organic Gelatinized Black Maca Root Chips are made from 100% Black Maca grown in the high Peruvian Andes. Instead of grinding the root into powder, the maca is kept in small pieces, giving you a traditional whole-root style format for teas, porridges and other recipes.
The roots are harvested, low-temperature dehydrated, gelatinized to reduce much of their natural starch content, and cut into convenient chips. Each 1 lb bag contains only Black Maca Root Chips — with no fillers, additives or other ingredients.

Why Choose Whole Black Maca Root Chips?
Maca chips are a distinctive way to use maca because the root remains in larger pieces rather than being ground into powder. For customers looking for a format closer to whole maca root, chips provide a simple way to prepare maca as a traditional food.
They can be simmered, steeped or cooked and work especially well in warm preparations such as tea, cereal and porridge. They may also be cooked until soft and blended into smoothies or other recipes.

What Makes Maca Chips Different?
Maca chips retain the root in larger pieces instead of grinding it into powder.
Maca chips, powders and capsules all begin with maca root, but the finished formats are quite different.
Maca chips remain as small pieces of the root and are generally simmered, steeped or cooked before use. Maca powder is finely ground and can be mixed directly into foods, drinks and recipes. Maca capsules provide a convenient pre-measured format with no preparation required.
Which format you choose largely comes down to how you prefer to prepare and use maca.
A suggested serving is 3–9 g daily. Because the chips remain as pieces of maca root, they are generally prepared by simmering, steeping or cooking before use.
Some simple ways to use them include:
Simmer the chips in water until softened and add them to oatmeal or another warm cereal.
Cook the chips until soft and blend them into a smoothie.
Steep them in hot water to make maca tea.
Use them in traditional Andean-style porridges such as mazamorra.
Traditional Maca Mazamorra
Maca root chips can be cooked into mazamorra, a traditional Andean-style porridge.
One traditional way to prepare maca root is as mazamorra, a warm porridge made by simmering maca until soft and combining it with ingredients such as milk, flour, sugar and spices.
For a larger recipe, simmer the maca chips until soft, then combine them with the other ingredients and continue cooking until the mixture develops a thick porridge-like consistency. Cinnamon, clove or anise can be added to taste.
Maca chips can also be incorporated into your own soups, cereals and cooked recipes, making them one of the most versatile whole-root style maca formats.

Suggested Use
Use 3–9 g daily, prepared in water, smoothies or other recipes. Maca chips are typically simmered, steeped or cooked before use.
A 1 lb (454 g) bag provides approximately 50 servings at 9 g per serving.

Black maca chips are fantastic for energy and libido. I sometimes prefer eating the chips over powder, the chips seem to digest slower thus providing a bit more of a sustained energy boost. Try mixing a heaping tablespoon of maca chips with a half cup of oats, 110g of fresh cranberries and a half cup of milk (simmer maca chips in oats as they cook to soften before eating).

My husband enjoys chewing on these chips directly. It’s a quick and simple way to enjoy the benefits of maca on the go with no mess. I do the same with the red and we share with each other. We also enjoying making tea with them and then eating the softened chips.

I would like to know if the product I received is the black maca root chips because it looks yellowish with small amounts being black. Is this how the black chips are? They are nice though. I love blending them in shakes. They give good energy.

Excellent quality, price, and service. As close to an actual plant as you can get. I eat this right out of the package. Great for energy, mood, and libido. 5 stars all the way!

These Maca Chips were excellent. I think they taste better then the raw powders. And if they really are the closest thing to the whole raw plant that can be exported out of Peru then nutrient wise it would make sense to give these a go. I def felt a good “Pop” from consuming these in a “Super Oatmeal” Mix I make. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because 5 stars to me is “Perfect All Around”. Highly recommend though for sure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are gelatinized Black Maca root chips?
Gelatinized Black Maca root chips are pieces of Black Maca root that have been cut into small chips and processed to reduce much of the root’s natural starch content. They provide a whole-root style alternative to maca powder or capsules.
What does gelatinized mean?
Gelatinization uses heat and water during processing to reduce much of maca’s natural starch content. The Black Maca roots are then dried and cut into chips for use in teas, porridges and other recipes.
How do I use Black Maca chips?
A suggested serving is 3–9 g daily. Maca chips can be simmered, steeped or cooked before use and added to teas, porridges, smoothies and other recipes.
How are Black Maca chips different from powder or capsules?
Maca chips remain as small pieces of the maca root rather than being ground into powder. Maca powder is easier to mix into foods and beverages, while capsules provide a pre-measured format. Chips are a good choice for customers who prefer to prepare maca as a traditional whole-root style food.
Where is this Black Maca grown and how is it processed?
Our Black Maca is grown in the high Peruvian Andes. After harvest, the roots are low-temperature dehydrated, gelatinized and cut into chips before being packaged.
Are these Black Maca chips organic, Fair Trade and vegan?
Yes. These Black Maca root chips are Certified Organic, Fair Trade, Non-GMO and vegan. The only ingredient is 100% Black Maca Root Chips.
How long does a 1 lb bag of Black Maca chips last?
A 1 lb (454 g) bag contains approximately 50 servings when using 9 g per serving. How long one bag lasts depends on your serving size and how often you use it.
How should I store Black Maca chips?
Keep the chips sealed in their resealable bag and store them away from direct light, heat and excess moisture. When properly stored, they have a shelf life of approximately 24 months.
