Smoothies are a great way to get your nutrients for the day in, and when it comes to ingredients, the possibilities are endless! Consider adding some of your favorite maca powder to your usual post-workout blend to speed recovery from your fun in the sun.

Fight Your Inner Caffeine Fiend

It’s estimated that about 66% of adult Americans like to start their day with a caffeinated beverage. But caffeine can dehydrate you, and it comes with the jitters and an inevitable afternoon crash besides. The solution? Our maca coffee substitute, The Morning Motivator! Enjoy it hot or iced depending on your preferences. Here’s a recipe for a maca latte incorporating maca root powder as a stepping stone.

Good Energy Maca Latte

Unwind With Maca Root

Lots of people like to unwind with an herbal tea at the end of a long day. But have you considered a tea with added nutrients and extended benefits? Try adding some maca powder to your favorite tea for an extra special kick!

Ginger Lemon Maca Tea Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2-3 t maca powder (If you are using gelatinized maca, you don't have to be worried about cooking the Maca (since it's pre-cooked) and you can simply place it the cup along with the tea while its brewing).
  • 1 C of your favorite hot tea

Directions

  1. Brew your hot tea for 3-5 minutes
  2. Add Maca and stir or shake in a blender bottle until well combined.

Try it Traditionally

If you’ve been a maca devotee for a while now, you probably know maca root originates high in the Andes mountains of Peru, where it’s been harvested for human consumption for many years. Have you ever wondered how those ancient farmers might have consumed their maca? One of our favorite maca recipes is for Chicha de Maca, a traditional fermented beverage. Keep in mind that while you can drink chicha immediately after making it, allowing it to ferment as intended will yield a drink that contains 1%-3% alcohol.

Chicha de Maca Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup purple corn flour
  • 1 cup Maca chips (or 1/2 cup Maca powder)
  • 1/4 cup Quinoa
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks
  • 10 Cloves
  • 1.5 Gallons of Water

Directions

  1. In a large pot, boil the cornstarch, Maca, Quinoa, Cinnamon and Cloves over the course of about 2 hours.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool, then strain and place it in a large container.  Add sugar.
  3. Allow to ferment for 2-6 days.
  4. Serve cold.
