Maca Blue: Our Maca and Spirulina Blend

What is spirulina? This cyanobacteria, or blue-green algae, has been safely consumed for centuries in countries around the world. It’s easy to understand why this might give you second thoughts – who wants to consume something with the word “bacteria” in it? But the Harvard Medical School recognizes spirulina as a good source of beta-carotene, various minerals, and gamma linoleic acid, which is an essential fatty acid. And in combination with maca root in our Maca Blue blend, it becomes a veritable powerhouse of nutrition.

Why Maca and Spirulina?

Maca on its own is packed with nutritious elements including vitamins, minerals, and free fatty acids. It also contains glucosinolates, which are bioactive compounds thought to act as cancer-fighting agents in the body. Additionally, maca is a source of macamides and macaenes, important secondary metabolites found almost exclusively in maca root, which play significant roles in some of maca’s most important functions: namely, its ability to enhance sexual performance and its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative activities.

Most of the organic maca products you can purchase at www.themacateam.com/ are exactly that – 100% organic maca with no fillers or additives. Whether you’re purchasing one of our raw maca powders or liquid maca extracts, we want you to know exactly what you’re getting. And in the case of our maca products, that’s the highest quality non-GMO, Fair Trade, sustainably-grown maca root on the market.

But there’s no denying the significant nutritional value spirulina has to offer. A number of studies suggest that spirulina “may increase the production of antibodies, infection-fighting proteins, and other cells that improve immunity and help ward off infection and chronic illnesses, such as cancer.” According to the Mount Sinai Health Network, amino acids make up 62% of spirulina, and it’s a rich source of protein and other nutrients.

Why Try Maca Blue?

We can’t say enough about the benefits of consuming maca – studies have shown that it can help improve your stamina, fertility, and more. The tricolor gelatinized maca in Maca Blue has been praised by researchers and consumers alike for the way it contributes toward hormone balance and sustained energy.

The other key ingredient in our Maca Blue is its US-grown organic blue spirulina. How do these two ingredients work together? Some positive outcomes from consuming this blend have included an increased feeling of satiation, with both of the nutrient-dense superfoods it contains helping you feel full longer. You might find that it will also give you a little more energy and mental focus than maca on its own does. Consumers of Maca Blue have also reported better energy during their workouts, and a quicker recovery time after strenuous exercise.

How Should I Take Maca Blue?

You can enjoy Maca Blue in either hot or iced beverages. We like mixing it into almond or hemp milk, so you can really appreciate that beautiful blue color…especially if you’re a Star Wars fan. You can also easily add it into smoothies or juices.
