What is the Best Time to Consume Maca?

Posted by The Maca Team on 10th Jan 2024

Are you an early bird, or a night owl? Your lifestyle and the schedule you keep probably affect when and what you eat. For example, most people avoid caffeine in the evenings while others need the boost before heading out to work the night shift. You might be experiencing some uncertainty on what the best time is to consume maca. There’s no right or wrong answer to that question, but we can offer some suggestions on how to work maca into your daily (or nightly!) routine.

Maca a Habit with Maca

Why should you take maca? We’ve gone into detail on maca’s many benefits in the past, but we never get tired of extolling this humble little root’s virtues. Originating in the Peruvian Andes, maca has been harvested for hundreds of years for its many reported benefits: its energizing qualities, its ability to improve libido and aid with conception, and its impact on focus and mental functions.

Maca’s popularity has waxed and waned over the centuries, but it has always been a valued part of many diets. It’s even been fed to livestock. Furthermore, modern science has lent weight to many of maca’s positive associations. Research performed in the last twenty-five years has found that maca may combat sexual dysfunction, in addition to helping the body put on muscle; it’s even been dubbed a “neuroprotectant,” a food that can help the body fight off age-related cognitive decline.

Maca is a superfood and an adaptogen, and as part of a healthy diet it can help your body regulate numerous functions while providing a wide range of vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids.

All of which is to say: there’s a lot maca can do for you, and just as many reasons you should make the time for it!

What's the Best Time for Maca?

Like we said earlier, there’s no right or wrong answer to that question. One of the key factors impacting your experience with maca is serving size - start with too much, and you might find yourself experiencing the jitters like you would with a caffeinated product. While maca contains no caffeine or other stimulants, it is meant to provide an energy boost, so most people would do well to avoid taking it too late in the day so as not to interrupt sleep habits.

Many of our customers enjoy their maca first thing in the morning. Our maca coffee substitute, The Morning Motivator, blends only a few healthy ingredients including our organic maca powder to give you a much-needed pick-me-up early in the day, without the risk of a caffeine crash in the afternoon.

Another popular way to have your maca is to mix it into a smoothie before or after a workout. Our maca recipes page includes several maca smoothie recipes, so you’re sure to find one you’ll appreciate!

Whatever time works best for you, taking maca can be as simple as mixing a couple teaspoons into a glass of water. Our Maca Finder product selection tool can give you an idea which maca product might work best for you depending on your size and goals. The best way to benefit from maca is to make a habit of it, and the best way to do that is entirely up to you!
