Mark Ament, Founder

Mark Ament is the founder of The Maca Team and a lifelong advocate for natural health, traditional nutrition, and ethical sourcing. He holds M.A. degrees from Arizona State University (American Indigenous Culture & Religions) and the University of Colorado (Spanish & Latin American Studies), and has trained extensively in raw and superfood nutrition with leading educators including David Wolfe and Dr. Gabriel Cousens.

Mark discovered maca in the early 2000s while researching traditional Andean plant medicines. Drawn to its history and the profound dedication of the farmers who cultivate it, he traveled to the Peruvian Andes to learn directly from the communities who have grown maca for generations.

Those visits led to lasting friendships with small, family-run farming cooperatives—relationships that continue to shape The Maca Team today. Inspired by their expertise and integrity, Mark began sharing maca with his students while teaching hundreds of raw food and nutrition classes throughout Asia and New Zealand.

In 2009, he founded The Maca Team with a simple mission:

to offer the highest-quality, ethically sourced maca in the world, while honoring the traditions and people behind this remarkable plant.

Today, Mark continues to guide the company’s sourcing standards, testing protocols, and educational content. His commitment to transparency, accuracy, and sustainable partnership remains at the core of everything The Maca Team does.
