Our Story: The Maca Team
The Maca Team was founded on a deep respect for people indigenous to the high Andes and their revered root, maca.
After years of working with superfood nutrition and traditional plant medicine, Mark Ament, founder of The Maca Team, first experienced maca in the early 2000s. Drawing on his background in Latin American studies and his familiarity with Peru, Mark connected with a cooperative of farmers in the high Andes who cultivated organic maca using traditional methods handed down for centuries. Its potency and purity sparked a calling.
What began as a personal search for authentic nutrition slowly grew into a mission: to create a transparent, science-based company that connects traditional Peruvian farmers with people who value purity, sustainability, and truth.
Today, The Maca Team serves customers in more than 40 countries, staying true to the same principles that shaped its beginnings — honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Meet Our Founder — Mark Ament
Mark holds dual M.A. degrees in Latin American Studies and American Indigenous Culture & Religions, and has spent over two decades researching superfoods and plant-based nutrition.
His experience bridges academic study with hands-on work in Peru, Asia, and New Zealand, where he taught raw-food nutrition and partnered with ethical suppliers.
