Our gelatinized premium tri-color maca root powder is made from grade A maca roots that are carefully and consciously grown, processed and handled. These roots are cultivated and harvested on an organic farming cooperative in and around Junin, Peru. This particular maca powder contains a blend of all three maca root colors, red, black and yellow, is pre-cooked (gelatinized) to ease digestion and is specially processed to preserve nutrient content, including glucosinolates, at high levels.

Our premium gelatinized tri-color maca powder is made from about 40% yellow, 30% red and 30% black maca roots. We often call it a “heritage harvest” product because people have traditionally eaten all three colors of maca in a mixuture.

What makes this maca powder “premium” is the way in which it is processed. Instead of being dried in the high mountain sun, select maca roots are fresh processed immediately after harvest. After coming out of the ground they are cleaned in a citrus solution, ground into a pulp and low temperature dried. This special processing leaves more glucosinolates in the final product.

This maca powder is also “gelatinized.” Gelatinization is a process in which maca is heated to high temperatures (160F / 70C). The heat causes the starch molecules in maca root to irreversibly dissolve and the result is a powder that has had some of its nutrients compromised but is easier to digest than raw maca. It’s important to note that nothing is added to maca during the gelatinization process, leaving it 100% vegan.
