Description
Gelatinized Sundried Black Maca Root Chips, Certified Organic, Fair Trade, Non-GMO, Vegan and Gluten Free
What Are Gelatinized Black Maca Root Chips?
Gelatinized black maca root chips are made from black maca roots (Lepidium meyenii) grown in the high Andes of Peru. The roots are cleaned, cut into small pieces, and gelatinized to reduce most of their natural starch content.
Because whole maca roots cannot legally be exported from Peru, maca chips are the closest form to whole maca root that can be sold internationally. They provide a traditional preparation style similar to the way maca has been consumed for generations in the Andes.
Overview
Our gelatinized black maca root chips come from an organic farming cooperative in and around Junín, Peru — the traditional growing region of maca. We work with farmers who manage their land locally and follow agricultural practices focused on organic cultivation, careful harvesting, and responsible processing.
These chips are produced from black maca roots that are harvested, dried, and then cut into small pieces before being gelatinized. The result is a traditional whole-root maca product that can be used in teas, porridges, or other recipes.

Why Maca Chips Are Unique
Maca is considered a protected agricultural heritage crop in Peru. Because of this designation, whole maca roots are not allowed to be exported. Cutting the dried roots into small chips allows the product to be exported while preserving a form that is very close to the original root.

How Are Maca Chips Different From Powder or Capsules?
Maca chips, powders, capsules, and extracts all come from the same maca root, but they differ in how they are prepared and used.
- Processing level: chips are minimally processed compared with powders or capsules.
- Preparation: chips typically need to be simmered, soaked, or steeped before eating.
- Texture and cooking: chips are commonly used in warm recipes such as porridges or teas.
For customers who prefer foods that are closer to their original form, maca chips provide a traditional preparation option.
How to Use Whole Black Maca Root Chips
A traditional way to use maca chips is to cook them into a porridge. This preparation method has been used for generations in the Andes.
Some simple ways to prepare maca chips include:
- Simmer 1/2 cup of maca chips for about 1 hour and add to oatmeal or other warm breakfast cereal.
- Simmer 1/2 cup of maca chips and blend them into a smoothie.
- Steep maca chips in hot water for about 10 minutes to make a tea.
- Prepare the traditional Andean porridge called mazamorra.
Mazamorra Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 cup (130 g) black maca root chips
- 1 cup (130 g) flour
- 1/4 cup (32 g) sugar
- 2 cups milk
- Clove, cinnamon, or anise to taste
- 4 cups water
Preparation
Simmer the maca chips in water with spices until soft (about 1 hour), adding water if necessary. Add flour, sugar, and milk and simmer for an additional 15–20 minutes. Allow to cool and enjoy. Mazamorra may be stored in the refrigerator for 1–2 days.

One of the Best Maca Products to date
These Maca Chips were excellent. I think they taste better then the raw powders. And if they really are the closest thing to the whole raw plant that can be exported out of Peru then nutrient wise it would make sense to give these a go. I def felt a good "Pop" from consuming these in a "Super Oatmeal" Mix I make. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because 5 stars to me is "Perfect All Around". Highly recommend though for sure.
