My personal opinion based off my experience is that the maca powder reduces my need for caffeine but allows me to function very well without caffeine or other stimulants. Maca does not give you a flush feeling that chemical based stimulants do (niacin, nitric oxide). But being as it does give you energy I refrain from drinking it several hours before going to sleep. I mix it with one part water and one part apple juice with some 'mothers' apple cider vinegar and sip on it throughout the day (chilled is better than room temp).
