Maca Meets Pumpkin: Cozy Treats for the Season

Maca Meets Pumpkin: Cozy Treats for the Season

As the air turns crisp and the leaves shift to shades of amber and gold, it’s the perfect time to cozy up with comforting seasonal flavors. Pumpkin and warm spices often take center stage this time of year, but there’s another ingredient that can elevate your fall favorites to a new level of wellness and vitality: maca root.

At The Maca Team, we believe that feeling good should taste good, too. When you pair nutrient-rich maca with creamy pumpkin and aromatic fall spices, you get the best of both worlds: comfort and nourishment in every bite. Whether you’re blending a creamy latte, baking soft pumpkin muffins, or whipping up a smoothie that tastes like dessert, maca complements pumpkin perfectly.

In this post, we’ll explore why maca and pumpkin make such a powerful seasonal duo - and share a few of our favorite cozy recipes to help you embrace fall the healthy way.

Why Maca and Pumpkin Are a Perfect Match

Pumpkin is beloved for its smooth texture, comforting flavor, and versatility. But it’s also a nutritional powerhouse, rich in vitamin A, fiber, potassium, and antioxidants that support eye health, immunity, and digestion. Pair that with maca root’s natural energy boost and hormone-balancing properties, and you’ve got a delicious combination that nourishes both body and mind.

Maca root, sometimes called Peruvian ginseng,” has been used for centuries for its ability to promote endurance, vitality, and emotional balance. It’s an adaptogen, which means it helps your body better handle stress - something most of us could use a little extra help with as we head into the busy holiday season.

Together, pumpkin and maca form a comforting yet invigorating blend. The earthy sweetness of maca enhances pumpkin’s creamy richness, and both ingredients pair beautifully with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and clove. Whether you’re starting your day or winding down by the fire, this pairing delivers the ultimate fall comfort.

Choosing the Right Maca for Your Fall Recipes

At The Maca Team, we offer premium, organic maca in a variety of forms - each with its own benefits and flavor profile. For cozy seasonal recipes, here are a few great options:

  • Red Maca Powder: Red maca blends beautifully into smoothies, oatmeal, and baked goods. It’s especially loved for supporting hormone balance and emotional well-being.
  • Gelatinized Maca Powder: Perfect for baking or warm drinks, this version is pre-cooked to make it easier to digest while maintaining all the benefits of raw maca.
  • Maca Capsules or Liquid Extract: Ideal for busy days when you want maca’s benefits without the prep - though for cooking and baking, powder is the way to go!

If you’re new to maca, start with ½ to 1 teaspoon per serving, then gradually increase as your body adjusts.

  • 1 9 1/2-inch whole wheat or gluten-free baked pie shell (or your favorite raw crust)
  • 1/4 cup toasted unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 tbsp. chopped crystallized ginger
  • 1 cup raw cashew pieces, soaked for a few hours, rinsed and drained

Sprinkle the toasted coconut/ginger over top and carefully add the remaining cashew-pumpkin mixture over top. Spread until even and smooth. Chill for several hours or until firm. Cut into slices and serve with whipped coconut cream.

Pumpkin Lentil Maca Soup

This healthy pumpkin lentil soup recipe comes from Carly Morgan Gross and was originally published on the Mind Body Green website.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups lentils (preferably soaked in water overnight)
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 cup full fat coconut milk
  • 1 small sugar pumpkin, peeled
  • 1 tsp. curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger powder
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped basil
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped sage
  • 2 Tbsp. maca powder
  • 1 tsp. mesquite powder (optional)
  • 1 head kale, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp (or more) sea salt
  • pepper, to taste

Directions:

Add every ingredient except kale to the pot. Bring to a boil, reduce to simmer, and cover. Keep this on the stove for at least a couple hours. The longer the better; the flavors infuse more and more with each minute that goes by.  When you're getting ready to serve, add the kale. Let the soup heat the kale to the point at which it turns just green, approximately three minutes.  Top your soup with fresh basil and fresh sprouts for some raw goodness!
