Overview
Our gelatinized premium tri-color maca root powder is made from grade A maca roots that are carefully and consciously grown, processed and handled. These roots are cultivated and harvested on an organic farming cooperative in and around Junin, Peru. This particular maca powder contains a blend of all three maca root colors, red, black and yellow, is pre-cooked (gelatinized) to ease digestion and is specially processed to preserve nutrient content, including glucosinolates, at high levels.
Premium Gelatinized Tri-Color Maca Root Powder
Our premium gelatinized tri-color maca powder is made from about 40% yellow, 30% red and 30% black maca roots. We often call it a “heritage harvest” product because people have traditionally eaten all three colors of maca in a mixuture.
What makes this maca powder “premium” is the way in which it is processed. Instead of being dried in the high mountain sun, select maca roots are fresh processed immediately after harvest. After coming out of the ground they are cleaned in a citrus solution, ground into a pulp and low temperature dried. This special processing leaves more glucosinolates in the final product.
This maca powder is also “gelatinized.” Gelatinization is a process in which maca is heated to high temperatures (160F / 70C). The heat causes the starch molecules in maca root to irreversibly dissolve and the result is a powder that has had some of its nutrients compromised but is easier to digest than raw maca. It’s important to note that nothing is added to maca during the gelatinization process, leaving it 100% vegan.

What Are The Disadvantages?
The main disadvantage of taking this type of maca powder is the taste. Premium maca powder is much spicier and stronger in flavor than standard maca. The flavor is difficult to disguise in smoothies or other recipes. Some people appreciate it, some people just tolerate it and others can’t stand it. Storage and Shelf Life

It’s okay
I LOVE this company and have had AMAZING results with previous types of their macas, ie yellow, red, and the sundried trio. Of course I know they all taste different. So I tried this one because I took a long break from maca and wanted to restart for energy. This one has a “bite” to it and doesn’t dissolve well in liquid. I am still slowly increasing my dose and haven’t yet felt like it was helping me with energy. But it could be that my body does better with red or yellow maca. I’ll finish it over the next few months but will probably go back to red maca.

Renewed Energy
My husband and I have used this product on and off for several years. I always ask myself why we stop because the benefits are great. The renewed energy and increased libido are only two of the positive results. We just get careless about taking it with us when we travel. Our bad. Need to make it a staple and this last time we both agree that it's a must.

Non-gym day recovery boost !
Used the raw maca (premium) before, this time the gelatinized....could be me,but this feels a bit stronger,so I use it on non-gym days by itself. On gym days I use other supplements,and like to keep them separate. Not a huge difference with digestion.... I also use ashwaganda for thyroid issues,so I try to use that at different times. I usually mix in a cup of cashew milk with stevia tumeric,and vanilla...... P.S. Nice quality family buisness !

I love the Maca Powder from The Maca Team. I appreciate that it is gelatinized, I have had no stomach issues. I got the Premium Maca Root Powder this time. I can't say that I notice a difference in the way that I feel, the taste is different than the Yellow gelatinized. I personally like the taste and how the yellow made me feel better- but it is always worth changing things up from time to time to see how something else works.

Wish I had noticed the iodine content before ordering
I don't doubt the quality of this product, however a word of caution is in order for anyone (like me) with autoimmune thyroid conditions where iodine is a big no-no. The iodine content was enough to send me into a severe tailspin for 3+ weeks and counting. Very scary and dangerous. I would not have thought to look for iodine in a root vegetable, and did indeed miss seeing it on the nutritional label until it was too late. While in most cases maca may be a positive addition, a small word of warning somewhere about this issue would be helpful for those of us who are foggy-brained.
