Overview
Our Premium Raw Red Maca Root Powder is made from 100% grade-A red maca roots. These roots are carefully and consciously grown, processed and handled on our organic farming cooperative in and around Junin, Peru. We work only with producers who own and manage their lands at a local grass roots level. The cooperative of farmers is committed both to organic farming and to producing the highest quality maca products available anywhere. We're very happy to support their work.
Premium Raw Red Maca Root Powder
What makes this Maca “premium” is the way in which it is processed. Instead of being sundried, maca roots are fresh processed immediately after harvest. After coming out of the ground they are cleaned in a citrus solution, ground into a pulp and low temperature dried. This special processing leaves more glucosinolates in the final product. The level of glucosinolates is standardized at above 1% in our raw premium red maca powder.
This type of Maca:
- Comes from a modern approach to processing maca developed in the past 25 years
- Is fresh processed - maca roots are dried in dehydrators immediately after harvest
- Is never heated over 105F / 40C
- Has higher glucosinolate content - nutrients which may help prevent cancer
- Is much stronger tasting - has a more noticeable maca flavor with more spiciness
- Is limited in supply since it must be produced from fresh roots during annual harvest (June-August)
- Costs more as the process is more labor and equipment intensive
- Is the most complete and potent all-around maca available
Why Take Premium Raw Red Maca Powder Over Standard Maca Powder?
This is an excellent question. There are a few reasons to take a premium maca product over a standard one. First, as we’ve already mentioned, premium maca is higher in glucosinolate content than standard (sundried) maca root products. Maca root is a cruciferous vegetable like radishes, cabbage, broccoli, horseradish and rutabagas to name a few. These type of vegetables have anti-cancer properties in that they help eliminate free radicals and are recommended for anyone who is fighting cancer as well as anyone who is particularly health conscious. Second, premium maca products are somewhat more potent in other nutritional categories as well. This means that you may be able to take a bit less and get similar results. Finally, this type of maca is tested to achieve more standardized levels of nutrients. For that reason, results can be more consistent from batch to batch.
Are There Any Disadvantages?
There are two main disadvantages to choosing raw premium red maca powder over standard raw red maca powder. 
- Premium maca powder tastes much stronger and spicier. It can even be a bit bitter or even astringent for some people. While there are a few people who appreciate and even enjoy this flavor, many don’t. This is easy enough to overcome, either by adding the powder to a recipe, such as red maca energy balls that hides the taste or by taking it in capsule form instead.
- Premium maca costs more. Due to the special processing and limited amount of harvest dedicated to producing premium maca it is more expensive (5%-15% on average). While you may be able to take a bit less due to its potency, it does cost more up front.

Hard, dry and very clumpy Red Maca root powder
This is my second order of red Maca root powder. The first one was excellent. The bag I was just sent was incredibly dry and full of very hard clumps. No matter what I do, even using a powerful frother, they will not dissolve even in boiling hot tea. I end up with very large clumps in my drink, and it’s pretty hard to get it down. Love All Colors Maca
We mix the red, black, and yellow maca powders together and use in smoothies, popsicles, puddings and other recipes. Makes a difference in overall health, energy, and general outlook. Sleeping better, too. Highly recommend these products. The quality is unbeatable.

Strong taste
I’m giving it two starts due to the taste. I had previously bought a bag of the organic red maca, and even though the taste wasn’t my favorite, I could drink it in just water. The taste of the premium one is so strong that I tried to mix with with milk and added cinnamon as recommended but it still lives a burning sensation in my stomach and makes me nauseous. I tried to exchange it/return it but they told me that was not possible because the product was opened. I’m still trying to figure out how to drink it. I might have to buy a bad of regular maca and mix it so the taste is snot so strong. So please be aware that the taste of the premium one is not like the regular maca, I wish I knew this. Red Maca Root Powder
I'm 74, in excellent health. Take NO prescription meds. My blood pressure for some unknown reason started climbing last year. For my age my Dr wants me to be under 130. He wanted to put me on blood pressure meds. I said no, let me try a natural way first. I started taking beet powder, that lowered in a few points. Then I added a 1/4 cup ground flax-seed in a smoothie everyday, it went down even more. I read about the Red Maca and added that. I mix that with the beet powder in water every morning to re-hydrate and fuel up. Took about a week to see a difference. Blood pressure is now in mid 120's and going down. Maca root first thing in the morning gives me a burst of healthy energy that lasts all day. I highly recommend it. Even if you take blood pressure meds you can still add this mix ( tell your Dr) and maybe it will help you get off it or at least take the smallest dose.

I do not like the Taste. I have found a hardy helping of pure maple syrup helps A Lot. I’m trying to finish it first so I can enjoy the Yellow maca at my leisure. Hi Janet, Yes, the premium maca products can have a strong taste for many people. We try to make that very clear on the website, but individual taste is hard to account for as everyone is unique. Hopefully you can find a way to use this one alongside your yellow powder.
