Let’s be honest - when you hear the word “gelatinized,” you probably aren’t thinking of anything particularly appealing. The first things that come to mind may be those awful jelly salads that were so popular in the 70s. Why would you want something like that? The good news is, there’s no aspic involved in gelatinized maca root. And there are a few reasons why gelatinized maca might be the right maca root product for you.
What is Gelatinized Maca?
To put it simply, gelatinized maca is maca root that’s been pre-cooked before it’s ground into maca powder. This significantly cuts down on the maca’s starch content, but the nutritional value of the maca is hardly impacted. It’s still the same organic, Peruvian-grown maca root you’d find in any of our raw or premium maca products.
So why should you consider trying out gelatinized maca? The main reason is its digestibility. A very small percentage of new converts to the maca lifestyle report some stomach upset when adding maca to their diet. That’s one of the reasons we suggest starting small and increasing your serving size as time goes on. Whenever you make a significant change to your diet or try a radically new food, it’s best to give your digestive system some time to adjust. - 1/2 cup almond or coconut milk
- 1/4 cup water
- 15 ice cubes
- 1 tablespoon cacao powder
- 2 teaspoons red maca powder (you can increase this gradually)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch Celtic sea salt
- stevia to taste
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth.
- Pour into a tall glass and enjoy.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup (130g) Maca chips
- 1 cup (130g) flour
- ¼ cup (32g) sugar (honey or other sweetener)
- 2 cups (250ml) milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- Clove, cinnamon and/or anise to taste
- 4 cups (500 ml) water
Preparation:
Simmer the Maca chips in water along with spices until soft (about 1 hour), adding water if necessary. Add flour, sugar and milk and simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes. Enjoy immediately. Mazamorra may be kept in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.
