Consider adding some of your favorite maca powder to your usual post-workout blend to speed recovery from your fun in the sun.

Wild Blueberry-Kale-Maca Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups chilled, unsweetened soymilk or plant-based milk of choice
  • 2 tsp kale powder
  • 2 cups frozen wild blueberries
  • 2 heaping tsp maca powder of your choice
  • 1 heaping tbsp unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 tbsp hempseed hearts
  • 2 tsp spirulina powder
  • 1 tbsp toasted wheat germ
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • Splash of Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) [more or less to taste]
  • Dash of ground ginger

Maca Powder Citrus Superfood Smoothie

 Ingredients:

  • 2 inches of fresh ginger root – peeled and sliced
  • 2 oranges – juiced
  • 1-2 cups frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup greek yogurt (homemade will work too)
  • 1 TBSP raw honey
  • 1 TBSP of maca powder (or preferred amount)

Preparation:

First, peel and slice your ginger root into small pieces and cut your oranges into halves to juice them. This is what I use if I only need a small amount of juice. Next, put all your ingredients into your Vita-Mix or preferred blender and blend until smooth. Once your smoothie is blended well, put it on the lowest setting and slowly sprinkle your maca powder in so that it blends well and doesn’t clump.  Lastly, pour it up into a pretty glass mason jar and enjoy!

Go Traditional

Maca chicha recipe - Shop TheMacaTeam.com.

If you’ve been a maca devotee for a while now, you probably know maca root originates high in the Andes mountains of Peru, where it’s been harvested for human consumption for many years. Have you ever wondered how those ancient farmers might have consumed their maca? One of our favorite maca recipes is for Chicha de Maca, a traditional fermented beverage. Keep in mind that while you can drink chicha immediately after making it, allowing it to ferment as intended will yield a drink that contains 1%-3% alcohol.

Chicha de Maca Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup purple corn flour
  • 1 cup Maca chips (or 1/2 cup Maca powder)
  • 1/4 cup Quinoa
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks
  • 10 Cloves
  • 1.5 Gallons of Water

Preparation:

  1. In a large pot, boil the cornstarch, Maca, Quinoa, Cinnamon and Cloves over the course of about 2 hours.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool, then strain and place it in a large container.  Add sugar.
  3. Allow to ferment for 2-6 days.
  4. Serve cold.
