Gelatinized Tri-Color Maca Root Chips, Certified Organic, Fair Trade, GMO-Free and Vegan 1 lb (454g)

Overview

These whole maca root chips are the closest thing to entire maca roots that can be legally exported from Peru. They are maca in its most authentic and pure form. Gelatinized tri-color maca chips are pre-cooked to ease digestion and concentrate some nutrients. They contain a blend of red, yellow and black maca roots and are a great value.
Maca root Chips are simply maca roots cut into small chunks after being washed and dried. Our chips are pre-cooked (gelatinized) to ease digestion and to make them simpler to consume. Traditionally, dried maca roots are boiled with water or milk and sugar to make a hearty porridge called Mazamorra. You can prepare maca chips the same way or experiment with other ways of making them. See below for more ideas.

What Is Tri-Color Maca?

Tri-color maca is simply a combination of all three of the major colors of maca roots: black, red and yellow. Instead of being separated by color, maca products made in this way use a combination of all 3 colors. This is the way maca has traditionally been consumed for centuries in the high Andes of Peru. The Maca Team is one of the only companies to continue to offer products made from all of the maca root colors.

What Are Tri-Color Maca Chips?

Our gelatinized tri-color maca root chips are made from about 40% yellow, 30% red and 30% black maca roots. After harvest these roots are dried, cleaned and then simply ground into chunks/chips that are ready to serve. They are as close to whole maca roots as you can get outside of the high mountain regions of Peru. That’s because Peru has banned the export of complete maca roots, declaring maca a heritage product of Peru. Actually, it’s interesting to note that, in spite of many serious efforts, maca roots only grow well in the areas where it originated – namely the Junin plateau of central Peru.

These chips are suitable for anyone, even those with sensitive digestion. That’s because they have been “gelatinized” or pre-cooked in a special process to remove most of the starch content. This process also serves to concentrate some nutrients.

What Are The Advantages of Using Whole Maca Root Chips?

There are a few advantages to using these tri-color maca chips. tri-color maca roots

  1. These chips contain a blend of all three maca colors, giving the consumer some of the benefits of each color.
  2. Since they are gelatinized they are easier to digest than raw maca root products.
  3. These chips offer as close to a whole food maca experience as possible.
  4. The tri-color chips are less expensive than our other chips because they are faster to produce (no one is needed to separate the maca roots by color).

How Do You Consume Maca Chips?

Traditionally maca chips are eaten in a porridge form. Here is a recipe for that along with some other ideas.

  • Simmer ½ cup of Maca chips for about an hour and add to oatmeal or other warm breakfast cereal
  • Simmer ½ cup of Maca chips for about an hour and add them to a smoothie
  • Steep Maca chips in hot water for 10 minutes to make a tea – add sweetener as desired

Try the traditional Mazamorra recipe – this makes for a hearty meal!

  • mazamorra de macaIngredients:
    o 1 cup (130g) Maca chips
    o 1 cup (130g) flour
    o ¼ cup (32g) sugar
    o 2 cups (250ml) milk
o Clove, cinnamon and/or anis to taste
    o 4 cups (500 ml) water

  • Preparation: Simmer the Maca chips in water along with spices until soft (about 1 hour), adding water if necessary. Add flour, sugar and milk and simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes. Allow to cool and enjoy. Mazamorra may be kept in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.

Best Used For:

Gelatinized tri-color maca is the traditional blend of all three maca colors and a great way to get started with maca root. Since it requires less work to sort the roots by color, this maca is less expensive than others. Yet, it contains black, red and yellow maca, thereby offering benefits of all three.

We recommend this natural health support for:

  • Men and women wanting to consume the traditional blend of Maca colors
  • Athletes, both men and women, looking for an extra strength and stamina boost
  • Anyone looking to improve memory, concentration and focus skills with Maca
  • All people taking Maca to improve their bone strength and density

Please note that results may vary from person to person.
